A
History of Hospitality! |
The
Pinebridge Inn opened in 1982, after a local businessman
purchased and restored what had been his school. The old
Harris School had closed five years earlier when a new
county facility opened just a few miles from town. The
city gained ownership of the abandoned school, but for a
while, its future was in doubt.
A Spruce Pine native and owner of Buck Stove
corporation, the proprietor had attended school at
Harris and didn't want to see the buildings destroyed.
He purchased the main school building, gymnasium, and
other structures, and started renovating.
The
hotel's educational beginnings are remembered often by
former teachers and students who find themselves once
again roaming the halls of old Harris School as guests
of what is now the premiere facility in the area of
comfort and hospitality.
